Chennai, Jan 1 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK General Secretary Vaiko today dismissed the recent controversial stand taken by the two expelled rebels L Ganesan and Gingee Ramachandran as insignificant.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said the two dissenting elements had attempted to execute the conspiracy hatched by the DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi by convening the party''s General Council at Salem on December 29, where only a few MDMK General Council members were present and rest of them were DMK men. The meeting proved to be an utter failure, he added.

Mr Vaiko alleged that he had adequate evidence for charging Mr Karunanidhi in hatching a conspiracy to damage the fame and reputation of the MDMK, but ultimately Mr Karunanidhi had failed in such attempts.

He reiterated that the MDMK is intact under his leadership and the party's official General Council Meeting would be held here on January 10.

Out of 1416 General Councl members, over 1300 had given written (affidavit) undertaking that they were very much with him (Vaiko), and they would be ever loyal to the party.

Mr Vaiko refused to answer the charges levelled against him by Mr Ganesan and Mr Ramachandran, as he considers their allegations as baseless.

Referring to the Mullaiperiyar dam issue, Mr Vaiko pointed out that the DMK Government had miserably failed to protect the interest of Tamil Nadu, even though the apex court came to the rescue of our cause.

He said, had Mr Karunanidhi acted timely in the case of Kerala Government, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would not have referred the matter to the Central Water Resources Minister and Law Minister. To achieve personal gains, Mr Karunanidhi had betrayed the people of Tamil Nadu, he alleged.

He further alleged that Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan is still attempting to do unjustice to the people of Tamil Nadu in the Mullaiperiyar dam issue, whereas his predecessor Oomen Chandy never made such attempts against Tamil Nadu and its people.
