Rane promises to accord top priority to developmental projects

Panaji, Jan 1 (UNI) Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane has assured to accord top priorty to developmental projects in the state.

Because of a burgeoning population, there is a need to provide for an underground sewage system, Mr Rane admitted. There is also a need to construct overhead tanks to supply water throughout the day, he agreed.

Mr Rane was speaking after inaugurating a prestigious Rs 2.24-crore market complex at Curchorem in South Goa today. He also said there was a need to set up two garbage treatment plants -- one in North Goa and the other in South Goa. The Chief Minister assured that steps would be taken to reduce the pollution problems plaguing Churhorem.

Mr Rane claimed that since the last two years, his government had accelerated the pace of development in the state.

''We need development, but at the same time we must ensure that the environment is not threatened,'' Mr Rane said.
