Railways, Kerala move in Sr Women National Handball
Kolkata, Jan 1 (UNI) Defending champions Railways and title aspirant Kerala, as expected, made impressive beginnings on the first day of the 35th Senior National Handball Championship for Women drubbing Uttaranchal 28-2 and Orissa 17-0 respectively here today.
In other league matches of the day, Bengal beat Orissa 20-4, Asom defeated Gujarat 24-2, Chhattisgarh downed Jharkhand 22-4, Punjab beat Gujarat 24-5, Jammu and Kashmir defeated Uttaranchal 17-5.
Manipur thrashed Madhya Pradesh 25-6, Uttar Pradesh edged out Rajasthan 11-9, Delhi beat Andhra Pradesh 16-5, Haryana drubbed Karnataka 25-4 and MP thumped Tamil Nadu 15-2.
Many teams are playing more than a match on a single day.
Earlier, West Bengal Sports Minister Subash Chakraborty opened the the six-day championship, first of such championship in the city, where nearly 500 players from 24 states are taking part.
