People welcome 2007 with zeal and enthusiasm

Shillong, Jan 1 (UNI) People in Meghalaya celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal to welcome the New Year.

Thousands of people thronged Khyndai-lad, the commercial hub centre here, in the spine chilling weather to celebrate the coming Year in an open air concert ''In Shillong Music Rolls Along'' organised by the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF).

Kolkata based 'Krosswindz' rock band along with local bands - Snow White, Felixes, Timmy Kharhujon and others serenade Shillongites with classical and modern music also performed their foot-tapping number in the concert.

Fire crackers were burst to mark the event as the clock struck 12 in the night.

At 'Cloud Nine', Channel V DJs Shireen and DJ Ashley enthralled the audience at hotel Centre Point while DJ Vinit played a ''Miracle Night 2006'' at Hotel Polo Towers.

The Forever Young also organised a midnight dip at Crinoline swimming pool to welcome the New Year.

Today morning, special morning mass and puja and prayers were held at several churches, temples and mosques across the state.
