One Berlin train runs over teens in two accidents
BERLIN, Jan 1 (Reuters) A single Berlin train ran over three teenagers in two accidents about 90 minutes apart, killing one and seriously wounding two others early today after one of the world's biggest New Year's Eve parties.
The S-Bahn train first ran into two teens who fell onto the track during a fight just as it was pulling into a station shortly after 0300hrs Both survived but were taken to hospital in serious condition.
''The train was emptied of passengers and after the track was cleared a replacement driver was taking it back to the depot shortly before 0500hrs when he ran over another teenager on the tracks at the next station,'' a police spokesman said.
''The 17-year-old was killed instantly. It looks like it was a tragic accident.'' Police said there were no other incidents after more than 1 million people crowded into Berlin for a giant fireworks display, an event organisers called the world's largest party.
