Narayanasamy calls for reconsideration of free rice scheme

Puducherry, Jan 1(UNI) AICC General Secretary V Narayanasamy MP, today called for a reconsideration of the continuation of the ten kg of free rice to all ration-card holders in the Union Territory.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Narayansami said that he was never against the implementation of any poor welfare scheme.

Let 20 kg free rice be given to the poor and needy, he added.

Mr Narayanasamy said, however, provision of the free rice to all family card holders need to be reconsidered. The Puducherry administration was implementing several welfare schemes and the parliament members Prof M Ramadass and himself were getting more funds from the Centre for the implementation of the schemes, he added.

He said certain anti-people forces were making allegation against him that he is pressurising the govt to stop subsidies.

Pointing out the incident of bomb blasts at Velrampet area, Mr Narayansami called upon the police force to be more vigilant.

Stringent action should be taken against the culprits, whoever it may be, and for this the force should be geared up, he added.

He said he had stressed for according priority to drinking water, education and health in the recent plan meeting held here for the 11th five year plan. It was also stressed to develop infrastrucutre for Tourism development, he added.

The Central Government was also approached for permission to set-up Casino in a ship here, he said. The Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Praful Patel had assured to introduce a 50-seater flight to Puducherry, following request from him, he added.
