CP(M) to finalise 'exact party line' on UP

New Delhi, Jan 1 (UNI) The top leadership of the CPI(M) which began deliberations in Kolkata today on the current economic and political scenario, will finalise its poll tactics for coming assembly polls in some states including Uttar Pradesh and Special Economic Zones( SEZs) among other things.

The four-day discussions will also focus on Left relationship with the UPA government,land-related issues including the situation arising out of Trinamool leader Mamata Bannerjee's 24-day fast on Singur Tata Car Plant, Party senior leaders Basudeb Acharia and Nilotpal Basu told UNI.

The Left leaders said the meet- a day-long polit bureau meeting today followed by three-day Central Committee consultations, would finalise the "exact party line" on UP. The CPI has already decided to go along with the nascent Jan Morcha of V P Singh, which is opposing the Samajwadi Party ( SP). So far the CPI(M) has been siding with Mulayam Singh Yadav's party in view of its ''relentless fight against fascist forces.'' The CPI(M) UP unit is also reported to have decided to oppose the SP this time.

Party General Secretary Prakash Karat has said the meet will also focus on Punjab assembly polls in Feburary. The party has decided to go to polls in alliance with the CPI and the Lok Bhalai Party in Punjab.

Mr Karat said the meeting would also be briefed on the government's move on Pension reforms.

The Left leaders said the continuing pressure on the people owing to price rise will also figure in the deliberations.

These would also discuss about the government's failure to bring in Women's Reservation bill in the Winter session of Parliament.

The party leadership will also take stock of the developments in the neighbouring countries.
