Coldwave welcomes 2007 in Punjab, fog hits rail traffic
Jalandhar, Jan 1 (UNI) People in Jalandhar witnessed a cold New Year with the mercury recorded at 2.4 degrees Celsius at the Adampur airport this morning.
Most parts of Punjab reeled under coldwave conditions with night temperatures staying low last night, a spokesman of the Met station of Indian Air Force here said.
Amritsar recorded the minimum three degrees, while Ludhiana and Pathankot recorded 3.2 and 6 degrees respectively.
Dense fog prevailed in the region, adversely affecting the rail services on Delhi-Amritsar and Delhi-Jammu routes with most of the trains running four to nine hours behind the schedule, a railway spokesman told UNI.
Among these trains, 2414 Jaipur bound JammuJaipur Puja Express was running nine hours behind schedule where as 3151 Sealdah Jammu Express was late by around 8 hours, 3152 Jammu Sealdah Express, 2413 Jaipur-Jammu Puja Express, 2332 Jammu Howrah Himgiri Express, 3005 Amritsar Howrah Mail and 3049 Amritsar Howrah Express were running late by 6 hours.
Delhi bound 2014 Amritsar-Delhi Shatabdi Express was also delayed by 40 hours this morning, the spokesman said.
