Bihar joins the nation in celebrating new year

Patna, Jan01(UNI) With the ringing of church bells at midnight lastnight, sound of bursting crackers marked the advent of another new year.

Revellers thronged to various picnic spots of the state early in the morning and braced the new year with joy and merrymaking.

In Patna, cutting across age, people from far flung areas started reaching Sanjay Gandhi Botanical Garden and selected the places of their choice where they enjoyed the event in cooking delicacies while some were dancing to the tunes of Bollywood film songs.

Other favourite spots of the revellers were Patna Museum, Kumhrar, Golghar along the banks of river Ganga. Special musical programmes were organised at posh hotels of the city, where singers from the Bollywood and other reputed orchestra group regaled the audience last night.

Some reputed dancers also performed on the new year day providing amusement and excitements to the music buffs.

State police headquarters sources said that instruction was issued to all district police suprintendents to ensure foolproof security arragements during the new year celebrations. Security personnel in plain clothes were deputed at picnic spots to foil any attempt of the trouble mongers.

With the coincidence of Id-ul-Joha, fervour was added to today's celebartion. According to reports receieved here from different parts of the state, Namaj was offered and rituals of sacrifice were performed on the occasion of auspicious day of Id-ul-Joha.
