Manipal, Jan 1 (UNI) All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and former Union Minister Margaret Alva today said that she was totally against National Women's Commission (NWC) demand for freedom to a married woman to engage in sexual relations with any person, in case the husband failed to ''satisfy'' her.

Reacting sharply on the views of the Commission, which had demanded in the Supreme Court that the wife should have the right to have sexual relationship with other person in case the husband failed to fulfill her desire, Mrs Alva noted that there could be no excuse for adulters.

''Marriage is a sacred relationship between husband and wife.

One is expected to be faithful to his/her partner in both good time and bad times'', she told mediapersons here.

The recent argument by the Commission had attracted wide criticism from cross sections of the Society.

Earlier, speaking after receiving the 'New Year Award 2007', instituted jointly by Syndicate Bank, Rotary Club of Udupi and Manipal and Academy of General Education, Manipal, Ms Alva said that the Education system is losing its true meaning.

Karnataka Lok Ayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde, Indian Society for Technical Education President N R Shetty and Country Building Industries Limited Managing Director P Dayananda Pai were also conferred the award in recognition of their outstanding contribution in their field.
