TNA urges Sri Sri to ensure justice to SL Tamils
Bangalore, Dec 31: A delegation of Parliament Members from theTamil National Alliance (TNA) of Sri Lanka has requested Sri Sri RaviShankar to use his good offices to prevail upon the Sri LankanGovernment to address the plight of the Tamil people in theconflict-ridden nation.
The MPs, who called on Sri Sri last evening, a widely-respectedglobal leader, requested him to persuade Indian leaders and theInternational community to take up the cause of the Tamil people in SriLanka.
Responding to the request, Sri Sri appealed to Indian PrimeMinister, Manmohan Singh to take immediate action to bring peace in SriLanka, Suresh Premachandran, Convenor of the in TNA informed after themeeting.
Mr Premachandran said, ''It is high time for the Government ofIndia to play a more proactive role to end the conflict in Sri Lanka.The delay in finding a political settlement is costing many innocentlives.'' He said India's intervention could help build trust betweenthe Sri Lankan Government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elaam(LTTE). Sri Sri urged both the parties to adopt non-violent means toresolve it,the issue.
Stating that the situation in northern Sri Lanka was alarming withscarce food supply and skyrocketing prices of essential commodities,Sri Sri appealed to the international community to rush humanitarianassistance to the affected people.
The delegation regretted that the Lankan Government is delayingthe peace talks. ''The Government is insisting that the talks canhappen only after marginalising the LTTE. In the name of marginalisingthe LTTE, thousands of innocent Tamils are being killed everyday,'' itsaid.
