TN, AIADMK chief greet people on NY, Bakrid

Chennai, Dec 31: Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala andChief Minister M Karunanidhi greeted people of the state on the eve ofNew Year.

In his message, Mr Barnala said 'let this new year be the dawn ofan era of peace, progress and prosperity. On this happy occasion let usresolve to dedicate ourselves and unite together to contribute ourmights for the growth and development of our nation.'' ''We could allbe proud of our nation in its march towards newer heights in scienceand technology,''he added.

The governor also greeted the Muslim community on the sacred occassion of Id-ul-Zuha.

''May this festival of sacrifice revive the spirit of dedicationand promote brotherhood, peace and harmony. Let us resolve to upholdour nation's integrity and solidarity,'' he said.

Mr Karunanidhi, in his message said the year 2006, with thesupport of people, Tamil Nadu witnessed a change of rule. He said theDMK Government had achieved several things, including distribution ofPDS rice at Rs 2 per kg, waiver of cooperative farm loans to the tuneof Rs 700 crore, free distribution of colour TV sets, completion ofsecond phase distribution of 2 acre free land to the landless poor andstipend for the unemployed youths.

The ruling DMK also restored various concessions to the governmentservants and teachers, which were taken away by the previousgovernment, pongal gift to them and 100,000 permanent jobs for theunemployed youths, the Chief Minister added.

''Let us hope that with the commitment, honesty and support of theyouths we will plan and develop the industrial sector of the statefurther.'' Mr Karunanidhi also greeted the Muslim community on theoccassion of Id-ul-Zuha.

AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, also extended her new yeargreetings to the people of the state and greeted Muslims on theoccasion of Bakraid.
