Rs3984.47cr Central projects completed: Directorate of Industries

Kolkata, Dec 31 (UNI) Central projects worth Rs 3984.47 crore have been completed in last fiscal of 2005-06 in West Bengal, according to a quarterly review by the State Directorate of Industries.

The review, "Investment Industry&Trade in West Bengal", released by the state government here yesterday said that, ''There are 41 Central projects, 17 were either completed at the end of March, 2006 or due for commissioning shortly.'' The report said the Central projects worth Rs 10,991.15 crore were under various stages of implementation. These projects, among others, include Construction of Integrated Cargo Complex at Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International airport, and Improvement of back-up area with Railway connectivity in Haldia and otehrs.

The report mentioned the state has drawn substantial investments in sectors like petrochemicals and its downstream projects, automobile and IT and ITES etc. The growth in the industrial sector as measured by index of industrial production (IIP) indicated a growth of 10.4 per cent by April-July,2006 as compared to 6.3 per cent in April-July 2005.
