MGEH doctors conduct rare eye surgery
Baripada, Dec 31 (UNI) Ophthalmologists at a hospital here performed a rare surgery on a 55-year-old tribal and removed a one cm long worm from his right eye.
The doctors at the Mahatma Gandhi Eye Hospital(MGEH) discovered a microscopic live wormtineasis, one cm in length and white in colour, hosted in the anterior chamber of the patient's eye.
Tineasis in eye is a rare disease and tinea in the anterior chamber of the eye was even rarer in the history of eye care said ophthalmologists S K Das and Paramjit Singh.
According to the surgeons ''one can get affected by this type of worm after consuming under-prepared or unhygienic beef, but it very rarely affects the eye.'' UNI
