Career counselling centres opened for women in UP

Lucknow, Dec 31: To give impetus to the share of women in moderntechnical curriculum, the Uttar Pradesh government has established fourcareer counselling centres at various state polytechnics.

State technical education department sources said here today, suchcentres have been set-up in state women polytechnics in Moradabad,Allahabad and Lucknow, besides state polytechnic int Kanpur.

''These centres are aimed at giving information regardingjob-oriented diploma courses being offerred in the polytechnics andemployment opportunities available to them,'' sources added.

At present, 17 women institutions are giving technical educationin UP and they collectively have an admission capacity of 1,980candidates.

Polytechnics run various technical and job-oriented courses,including fashion designing, interior decoration, cooking, statuemaking and handicrafts.

These specialised institutions also train students under severalcourses in the streams of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering.

Besides, women candidates have been given the facility of 20 percent reservation in co-education polytechnic institutions in the stateto enhance their share in diploma-level technical courses.
