AP police clamps orders for trouble-free New Year

Vijayawada, Dec 31: The police has clamped section 30 of thePolice Act and prohibitory orders under 144 of the IPC to ensuretrouble-free and peaceful New Year celebrations in the citycommissionerate limits.

In a statement here today, City Police Commissioner C V Anand saidwhile police will not come in the way of celebrations to usher the NewYear, it would keep a close watch to ensure that the festivities remainpeaceful and no trouble was caused to public.

Stating that assembly of five or more people on city roads havebeen prohibited, he urged the people not create noise pollution byremoving silencers of the motorcycles tonight. A ban was also in forceon use of mikes and bursting of crackers after midnight.

Warning that those who harass women in the name of celebrationswould be punished severely, he said police would patrol to maintain lawand order.
