Vehicle rally against coal-based power plant on Dec 31
Udupi, Karnataka, Dec 30 (UNI) To garner mass support against the proposed coal-based thermal power project at Yellur in this district, the district unit of Yuva Shakthi has proposed to organise a vehicle rally on December 31 from Nandikur to Padukere Beach.
Over 300 two-wheelers would take part in the rally, Yuva Shakthi Director Shanthi Prasad Hegde told a news conference here yesterday.
He said the Yuva Shakthi also plans to organise a mass awareness campaign at the village level from January next year against the severe damage to be caused to sea, air and ecology of the region by the coal-based plant. The Yuva Shakthi has prepared 800-strong dedicated youth, who were ready for any sacrifice for protecting the environment, he added.
Yuva Shakthi district unit President Harish Kumar said after the rally, a mass meeting would he held at Padukere near Malpe, which would be addressed by Rashtriya Hindu Sena State President and firebrand leader Pramod Muthalik and Nagarjuna Ushna Vidyuth Virodhi Horata Samithi President Pramod Madhwaraj.
