Tamil Nadu: 'Vaikunta Ekadasi' at Srirangam
Srirangam (Tamil Nadu), Dec 30: Lakhs of devotees from various parts of the country congregated at the historic Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple today for 'Vaikunta Ekadasi.' The festive deity, Lord Namperumal, clad in glittering gem-studded armour (Rathina Angi) was taken through the 'Paramapada Vaasal' (holy gateway to heaven) at 0415 hrs amid chanting of vedic hymns, followed by lakhs of devotees.
The deity was taken to the 'Thirukkottagai,' where the idols of Azhwars and Acharyas had been kept. Special prayers and poojas were performed.
The presiding deity, Sri Ranganatha Swamy, was adorned with famous 'Muthangi' (Pearl Robe). The 'paramapada vaasal' will be kept open for nine days.
State HR and CE Minister K R Periyakaruppan, HR and CE Secretary R Karpurasundarapandiyan, District Collector Ashish Vachchani and Mayor Sarubala R Thondaiman were among the participants.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the police to regulate the crowds and prevent any untoward incidents.
