US soldier killed in Baghdad, 3,000 mark near

Baghdad, Dec 30: A US soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad, the US military said today, bringing the number of US military deaths in Iraq since the beginning of the war to at least 2,996.

Earlier, the US military reported the deaths of three US marines from wounds suffered in combat in Iraq's western Anbar province.
