UPDS ultra held, arms recovered

Guwahati, Dec 30 (UNI) A joint team of police and the Army today arrested a cadre of United People's Democratic Solidarity (UPDS), a Karbi tribal militant group, along with a huge quantity of arms and ammunition.

Police said the UPDS rebel, identified as Debo Kancha (19), was arrested from Sololingri at Khatkhati under Bokajan police station of Karbi Anglong district. He was carrying one grenade launcher, three 9mm pistols, one 303 rifle, one grenade and 100 rounds of ammunition. Police suspected that the arms and ammunition were meant to be used to disrupt forthcoming election to the Kabi Anglong Autonomous District Council.

A joint team of police and army also arrested two cadres of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), along with some incriminating documents that included a few extortion demand notes, at Beloguri under Howraghat police station in Karbi Anglong hill district.
