Tribal students call general strike

Imphal, Dec 30 (UNI) The All Tribal Students' Union of Manipur(ATSUM) has called a state-wide general strike on January 4 to oppose the 'failure' of the Manipur government to fulfil their demands.

The ATSUM had demanded that the government should clear the backlog of seats reserved for tribals.

The strike would be followed by an economic blockade on the two National Highways 39 and 53.

Meanwhile, the Jiribam District Demand Committee had also called a 24 hour Jiribam bandh from 6 pm today to oppose the failure of the government to upgrade this sub-division into a full fledged district.
