TN CM launches "Varumun Kappom" scheme
Chennai, Dec 30 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today launched ''Varumun Kappom'', a preventive medical care scheme to help people to get themselves screened for various diseases.
Under the scheme, medical camps would be organised in all the districts in the state and the people could get screened for various diseases in the camps.
While Mr Karunanidhi inaugurated the scheme at suburban Poonamallee, his ministerial colleagues would launch the scheme in other districts tomorrow.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Karunanidhi said he was happy to revive the scheme, remained unimplemented during the previous AIADMK regime.
People should extend their support and cooperation to such good schemes. People could save themselves even from killer diseases, if only they had taken some preventive measures, he said.
The Chief Minister said the scheme would be extended to benefit hundreds and thousands of people during this year.
After launching the scheme, Mr Karunanidhi distributed Medical cards and other welfare assistance to the people. The Chief Minister also distributed mobile phones to Rural health visitors.
The innovative Mobile scheme, launched for the first time in the country, would help pregnant women in rural areas to avail the assistance of the health visitors in case of emergency.
Under the scheme, the Government proposed to distribute mobile phones to 8673 health visitors, at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore.
