SHO, constable suspended

Vijayawada, Dec 30 (UNI) A Station House Officer (SHO) and a constable attached to town police station were suspended from duty by City Police Commissioner C V Anand here today.

While the House Officer was suspended on the charges of negligence of duty and the constable was suspended for allegedly raping a woman housed in the station cell last night.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Anand said one M Janaki, an habitual offender involved in many cases was taken into custody yesterday by constable Radhakrishna and was brought to the station.

However, Janaki today lodged a complaint with the City Police Commissioner, submitting that she was raped by constable Radhakrishna.

Following this, an enquiry was initiated and the constable was arrested and suspended from the duty, Mr Anand said.

Mr Anand said 15 days back, all the police officers were instructed to maintain a vigil and take stock of the happenings at all police stations.

They were also instructed to avoid bringing women to police stations.

But the SHO Bhaskar failed to discharge his duty as he did not visit the police station last night, he added.
