Protests in Delhi over Saddam's execution

New Delhi, Dec 30 (UNI) The execution of deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein today led to a series of protests in Delhi with several organisations holding demonstrations condemning the hanging.

Activists of the Communist Party of India (ML) and the Socialist Unity Centre of India demonstrated outside the American Centre in the Capital to condemn the execution of Saddam ''at the behest of the US Government''.

The CPI (ML) and SUCI activists carried out a procession from Jantar Mantar to the American centre. The CPI (ML) protestors also burnt the effigy of US President George Bush. The protestors were led by party's central committee members Swapan Mukherjee, Kumudini Pati and Ramji Rai.

Condemning Saddam's hanging, the Indian Union Muslim League said,''the execution was in arrogant violation of the rule of law and all established principles of justice. It is most unfortunate that the United Nations failed the civilised world.'' Flaying Saddam's execution, All India Trade Union congress general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta said,''the execution of the former Head of State of Iraq at the behest of an imperialist government is totally unjustified.'' The Revolutionary democratic front also condemned Saddam's execution.

''By executing Saddasm in a hurry, imperialism has proved that it is endangered by the people's fight for liberation all over the world,''the RDF said.
