Multipurpose Canal to be completed soon: Hooda
Chandigarh, Dec 30 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said Rs 260 crore Bhakhra Mainline-Hansi Butana Multipurpose Canal would be completed at the earliest to ensure equitable distribution of canal water in the state.
The Chief Minister, while addressing a public meeting at Kosli in Rewari district today, said the people of Southern Haryana would get maximum benefit of Hansi Butana Multi-purpose canal as it would supply 2000 cusecs of water to this area.
He said the opposition leaders were opposing the construction of the canal to mislead the people.
Referring to the issue of Sutlej Yamuna Link Canal, he said that Haryana was created by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and she had also launched the digging of SYL canal at village Kapuri.
Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had decided to give Rs 700 crore on behalf of Central Government for the construction of this canal.
He said the Dadupur Nalvi canal was being constructed at a cost of Rs 270 crore and it would benefit the districts of Ambala, Kurukshetra and Kaithal.
