Mohun Bagan romp home with Federation Cup
Kolkata, Dec 30 (UNI) Goalkeeper Sangramm Mukherjee led Mohun Bagan to clinch 28th Peerless Federation Cup saving two penalty shots in the tie breaker 4-2 win in the final match against Sporting Clube de Goa that gave India skipper Baichung Bhutia first Federation trophy in his sixth finals.
After Mohan Bagan and Sporting Clube de Goa drew 1-1 in the scheduled and extra time period, the tie-breaker was introduced for the decider, that saw Bagan lucky on three occasions in as many matches in this championship.
The visitors went ahead in fifth mintue when Harmanjit slotted home taking cue from a free kick and the equaliser for Bagan came when Fabio sent a header in the 27th minute.
In tie breaker Bagan's Barreto, Dipendu Biswas and Fabio scored while John, Jeremaya and Jagdish failed to convert the shot.
Sangramme Mukherjee saved brilliantly shots of Jeremaya and John.
Baichung, who was decalred man of the tournament, was lucky to have Federation cup that him eluded in this two decade career in Indian football.
Fair Play award went to Churchill Borhters.
AIFF chief Priya Ranjan Das Munshi presented awards to the winners and lossers. Bagan receivied Rs 12 lakh for winning the trophy.
