Modi launches 'Nirmal Gujarat-2007' campaign

Gandhinagar, Dec 30 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today formally launched his campaign 'Nirmal Gujarat-2007' by garlanding the statue of freedom fighter Ravishankar Maharaj here.

Calling upon the people of Gujarat to take a pledge for always maintaining cleanliness so that the state becomes healthy and attractive, he noted that clean cities and villages have been achieved only by people's awareness regarding the importance of cleanliness, an official release said here.

This year, 1600 villages have participated in the 'Nirmal Gram' contest and next year, Mr Modi hopes thousands more would join in the campaign.

Gandhinagar district collector Ms Sonal Mishra said the task is indeed formidable. She appealed to city dwellers, social activists educationists and the youth of the state to actively participate in achieveing the goal.
