Karnataka circle to add 1.5 million additional mobile capacity

Bangalore, Dec 30 (UNI) High on demand and choked to near capacity, BSNL Karnataka Circle aimed to add about 1.5 million additional mobile phone capacity next fiscal to the existing 1.5 million lines.

Talking to newsmen here, Karnataka BSNL Circle Chief General Manager T S Kuppuswamy said work would also be initiated to set up 1500 cellular base stations in 1000 locations across the state to improve the connectivity problems. these stations would come within the next 18 months, he added. He said nearly 95 per cent of the capacity had been utilised.

Stating that BSNL mobile services were on huge demand, he said customers from other services were migrating to BSNL and there was a huge demand.

Referring to broadband services, he said BSNL Karnataka had a capacity of 138,000 connections, of which 118,000 connections have been provided to customers. The capacity would go up to 333,000 lines next year, he added.
