ITBP personnel arrested for extortion
New Delhi, Dec 30 (UNI) Delhi police has arrested an ITBP personnel for impersonating as a Deputy commissioner of Police in the Economic Offences wing and intimidating a chartered accountant to extort money.
Surajpal Singh Rana was arrested after a complaint by Manish Gupta, a chartered accountant, that he had, beginning in February last year, been receiving calls from a person claiming to be a DCP in the EOW and threatening that a case had been registered against him and he would be arrested. Inquiries by the complainant, however, revealed that no such case had been registered.
Investigation by the police led them to Surajpal Singh, a driver who was on deputation to SPG from the ITBP, following which he was arrested.
On interrogation, Surajpal admitted that he made threatening calls from his mobile phone and from his office phone installed at the SPG office, extorting money impersonating as DCP of EOW.
In another incident, the South West district police have arrested a person for impersonating as a police official.
Forty five-year old Karya Nand Sharma was arrested for travelling with a fake identity card of the Delhi police.
On interrogation, the accused revealed that he had been working as a security guard in the Ganga Ram hospital and was using the fake identity card for the last year.
