Explosion heard in Shi'ite holy city of Kufa in Iraq

Baghdad, Dec 30: An explosion was heard in the Shi'ite city of Kufa in southern Iraq today and ambulances and police rushed to the scene, a Reuters witness said.

Kufa is one of the holiest cities in Iraq for majority Shi'ites.

No other details were immediately available about the blast, which took place a few hours after former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein was executed in Baghdad.
