Cops suspended after death in custody

Raisen, MP, Dec 30 (UNI) Three police officials have been suspended after a 28-year-old accused allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in a farm near this district's Sultanpur Police Station, the police said.

The officials were Assistant Sub-Inspector H L Tiwari, constables Jamnalal and Ramganesh Gaur. A magisterial inquiry was ordered and District Collector Arun Bhatt appointed Goharganj's Sub-Divisional Officer Yogendra Singh as the investigating officer.

Maukam Banjara was taken into custody yesterday at Jaitvineka village in a case relating to assault of a woman. Late at night he ventured outside the police station for attending a call of nature but did not return.

A search led to the body being found under the tree today. The accused's kin suspected foul play. This is the third death in custody at Sultanpur within a short span of time.
