Congress to announce candidate's name from Jan 26

Dehra Dun, Dec 30 (UNI) The Congress in Uttaranchal today said the party will announce its candidates for the Assembly elections, due early next year, from January 26.

While making the announcement, Uttarakhand Congress Committee Chief Harish Rawat urged Chief Minister N D Tiwari to contest the elections slated for February 21 next year.

'' I would, from my heart, welcome his decision to contest the election,'' Mr Rawat told mediapersons here today.

When asked whether he would contest, he said for the time being he had been assigned a job to prepare the party for polls.

''However I am not averse to contesting, it depends on High Commands' order,'' he asserted.

The leader, apprising about the election preparedness, said the party was by all means ready for the elections.

''All the units had been instructed to submit applications of aspiring candidates by January 15 which would be forwarded to the High Command on January 20 with the recommendations and suggestions of the state Congress Committee.

Claiming that the Congress government had fulfilled most of its promises made in its last manifesto, Mr Rawat said the party would bounce back to power with comfortable majority.

The Committee Chief informed the manifesto of the Congress Party this year would be divided into three parts. The first, second and third part would include a performance report card, developmental works to be carried out in the next five years and party's vision for the next 20 years respectively.

''A five-member committee has been set up to prepare the performance report card of the party,'' he added.

The party would begin its election campaign in Haridwar, Udhamsingh Nagar and Champawat districts in which national leaders would also participate, he said.
