AC opposes proposed NWRA
Itanagar, Dec 30 (UNI) The Arunachal Congress has opposed a high level group's proposal to constitute Northeast Water Resources Authority (NWRA) in an executive body meeting here today.
The AC had also urged the Centre and Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi not to interfere in the matter.
They said the Brahmaputra Board had proved to be a 'lame duck' in this regard.
AC president Kamen Ringu had alleged that NRWA wanted to hijack the economic interest of the state for the benefit of other states which otherwise would accrue to the people of Arunachal from its vast water resources.
'' The Arunachalis have sole right over their water resources and no other state should make any attempt to deprive them by sabotaging the 'liquid gold','' AC members said in a release.
The regional party had also requested Chief Minister Gegong Apang and Water Resources Minister Tako Dabi not to be part of the body, which would function in Asom and Arunachal.
The party also alleged that the body was decided to be formed without taking a consensus opinion of the people.
State assembly in its winter session on October 28 had passed the Arunachal Pradesh Water Management Authority Bill, 2006 based on the October five cabinet decision to protect and harness the vast water resources of the state.
