Abhishek, Naginder best all-around gymnasts

Mohali, Dec 30 (UNI) Abhishek Chattarjee of Uttar Pradesh and Naginder Kaur of Punjab were declared the all-around best artistic gymnasts in the boys and girls categories with 51.00 and 32.75 points respectively in the XX Sub-Junior Artistic and XVII Senior Rhythmic Gymnastic Championship being held at the Shivalik Public School Multipurpose Hall here this evening.

Nitin Mishra, also of UP, finished second with 50.85 points while Rakesh Patra of Orissa was third with 46.10 points.

In the girls section, Baruna of Andhra Pradesh and Nishata Gupta of Uttar Pradesh got second and third place with 30.25 and 30.10 points, respectively, in the artistic all-around individual competitions.

Scoring nine plus in each competition Komal Nahar of Maharashtra won the all-around championship in rhythmic competitions. She was awarded 9.88 in rope, 9.33 in ball, 9.05 in clubs and 9.20 in ribbon for an aggregate total of 37.47 points.

Jashandeep Kaur of Punjab (8.13, 8.50, 8.40 and 9.05) and Puja Chauhan of Haryana (9.20, 8.20, 8.18, 8.20) were second and third with 34.08 and 33.78 points respectively.

Maharashtra (Akshata Shete, Pooja Surve, Komal Nahar) lifted the team championship in rhythmic with 85.75 points.

Haryana secured runners-up trophy with 75.89 points. Their team comprised Puja Chauhan, Surekha Rana and Renu. Hosts Punjab (Jashandeep Kaur, Kiranjeet Kaur and Sonika Sharma) finished third with 75.02 points.

Results: Rhythmic team championship: 1 Maharashtra (Ashmita Raje 28.04, Pooja Surve 31.81, Komal Nahar 37.46) 85.75.

2. Haryana (Pooja Chouhan 33.78, Surekha Rana 29.78, Renu 23.12) 75.89.

3. Punjab (Jashandeep Kaur 34.08, Kirandeep Kaur 31.38, Sonika Sharma 17.81) 75.02.

Individual all-around championship: 1 Komal Nahar (Mah) ( rope 9.88, ball 9.33, clubs 9.05, ribbons 9.20) 37.46, 2. Jashndeep Kaur (Punjab) (8.13, 8.50, 8.40, 9.05) 37.34.08 .

3. Puja Chouhan (Haryana) (9.20, 8.20, 8.18, 8.20) 33.78.

Artistic: Boys: All-around individual championship: 1 Abhishek (UP) 51.00, 2 Nitin Mishra 50.85, 3 Rakesh Patra (Orissa) 46.10, 4 Pratip Das (WB) 44.40, 5 B Lakhan Balmiki (AP) 43.50, Aditya Kadam (Maharashtra) 43.40.

Girls All-around individual championship: 1 Naginder Kaur (Punjab ) 32.75.
