40 feared killed as bus falls into Ganga

Hajipur, Dec 30 (UNI) At least 40 people were feared killed when a private bus jumped the rallings of Mahatma Gandhi Setu over the Ganga and fell into the river early this morning.

Official reports said the ill-fated bus was proceeding to Patna from Hajipur and the driver might have lost control over the vehicle due to thick fog.

The accident occurred near the pier number 8 of the bridge and fell down 80 feet from the surface of the bridge.

Police and civil officials rushed to the spot and rescue operation was on, sources said adding details were awaited.
