Student violence on BHU campus, case registered
Varanasi, Dec 29 (UNI) A case has been registered at the Lanka police station here in connection with the late last night violence on the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus.
Station Officer (Lanka) Prashant Kumar said here today a case has been registered against unidentified persons in this connection.
University Proctorial Board sources said two groups of students residing in the Acharya Narendra Deo (AND) and Birla hostels clashed and indulged in firing and bombing. No one was hurt.
Irate students also ransacked some property at the AND hostel, besides setting afire two motorcycles.
A group of students staged dharna on the central university campus early today, demanding action against the students responsible for the violence.
Those responsible for the violence were being identified and strict action will be taken against them soon, Chief Proctor S K Singh said adding, plans were afoot to deploy security pickets on the hostel road.
The violence was a continuation of a recent altercation between students of Arts and Social Science faculties during a cultural programme on BHU campus.
