Six jailed in Asom Loc scam case
Guwahati, Dec 29 (UNI) A Special CBI Court here today awarded jail terms to six of the accused in the Rs 400 crore LoC scam that rocked Assam State Veterinary Department in 1991-92 and was unearthed in 1993.
The court today gave the verdict in connection with the case related to Sonari Sub-divisional Veterinary Office in Sivasagar district.
The CBI had filed total 15 charge sheets in March 1996 in relation to the scandal that was spread over different treasury offices and veterinary department offices all over the state.
Four of the accused - businessman Rajen Bora, veterinary department staff Dr Inamul Haque and Mukibul Islam, Sivasagar district treasury accountant Tankeswar Saikia - were awarded five year jail term each alongwith Rs 50,000 fine.
Two other businessmen, Achyut Borpujari and Mrs Rajita Borpujari were sentenced to two years in jail and fined Rs 30,000 each.
