Sathyaraj, Thirumavalavan, get state awards
Chennai, Dec 29 (UNI) Senior actor Sathyaraj and Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) General Secretary Thol Thirumavalavan were selected by the Tamil Nadu government for this year's 'Periyar and Annal Ambedkar Awards.' Every year, the state government gives awards in the name of poet Bharathidasan, Tiru Vi Ka, Periyar and Ambedkar to recognise people for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.
This year, Sathyaraj has been selected for the Periyar award, named after rationalist leader Periyar E V Ramasamy for acting without payment in the film on Periyar, funded by the state government, an official release here said.
While poet M Chellappan was selected for the Paavendar Bharathidasan award, writer K Thirunavukarasu was selected for Thiru Vi Ka award for their contribution to social development and Tamil language, the release said.
The award carries cash of Rs one lakh, citation and one sovereign gold medal, the release added.
