RBI to circulate new steel Rs 2 coins

Hyderabad, Dec 29 (UNI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would soon put in circulation new ferritic stainless steel Rs 2 coins with the theme 'unity in diversity.' According to an official release here, the coins will be circular in shape with a diameter of 27 MM with a metal composition of 17 per cent Chromium and 83 per cent Iron.

The face of the coin has three portions. The centre portion bears the Lion capitol of Ashoka pillar with the slogan 'Satyameva Jayate'(in Hindi) inscribed below and the prominent international numarals ''2'' indicating the demonination.

The top portion will contain the word +Bharat+ in Hindi and India in English. The bottom portion will have the year mentioned in internaitonal numerals.

The reverse face of the coin shows stylished representation of ''Unity in Diversity'' a defining characterstic of our country. The symbol shall be seen as four heads sharing a common body.

The two rupee coins presently in circulation would also continue to be legal tender.
