Pink City shivers at three degrees Celsius

Jaipur, Dec 29: The temperature in the state capital today plunged to three degrees Celsius, setting in a chill which is keeping the people wrapped in woollens and forcing them to stay indoors.

According to the weather office, western disturbances have resulted in the dipping of temperatures and the freezing condition have been compounded by the accompanying cold winds. Light rains and snowfall in the upper reaches of the Himalayas have resulted in the intense cold wave.

Churu was the coldest in the state today, freezing at 2.5 degrees Celsius. Many places in the state witnessed a fall of three to five degrees Celsius today.

Jaipur was 6.4 degree Celsius yesterday but the capital is shivering today at three degrees Celsius. Although the sun is bright, cold winds have further aggravated the cold wave conditions.

However, braving the chill, a large number of tourists are arriving in the desert parts of the state - Barmer, Jaisalmer and Bikaner to spend their new year amidst the barren sand dunes. Mount Abu, the only hill station in the state is also milling with tourists.

According to the weather department, Pilani in Jhunjhunu district recorded 3.1 degrees Celsius, Ganganagar 4.1, Bikaner 5.4, Barmer 7.7, Jaisalmer 8.7, Udaipur 8.8, Ajmer 9.5, Jodhpur 10.4 and Kota 10.7 degrees Celsius.

There may be a further fall in the temperature over the next few days, predicts weathermen.
