'Mazaar' vandalised in Kanpur, tension prevails

Kanpur, Dec 29 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Kalyanpur here this morning following the desecration of a 'mazaar' in the area.

However, timely intervention by senior police officials, who rushed to the spot, prevented the situation from turning ugly.

According to police, miscreants had vandalised the 'mazaar' of Sayyed Baba situated in the Awas Vikas Colony.

The desecration was discovered in the morning. Police arrived in strength on getting the information.

Later, the vandalised 'mazaar' was reconstructed with the help of local people.

Members of both the Hindu and Muslim communities pay obeisance at the 'mazaar'.

Desecration incidents have rocked Kanpur of late. Earlier, statues of Baba Bhimrao Ambedkar were vandalised in Kakadeo, Panki and Ghatampur areas, which sparked countrywide violence, including Mumbai.
