Indian one-day governor in US state
New York, Dec 29 (UNI) For the first time, an Indian-American has become the governor of a US state, though for a day.
An immigrant from India, Kris Kolluri, became the governor of neighboring New Jersey yesterday.
Mr Kolluri, 38, who immigrated along with his family to the United States 21 years ago, held the august office just for one day as Governor Jon S Corzine and three others who could have succeeded him were out of state capital Trenton. They were on a holiday.
Mr Kolluri was quoted as saying in news reports, ''At best my family will call me governor. At worst, I am a 'Jeopardy' question.'' ''Jeopardy'' is a TV game in which general knowledge questions that are sometimes of minor importance are asked.
Mr Kolluri is the Transportation Secretary of the state and he is the fourth in line of succession to the post of governor.
