Four failed class X students attempt suicide in Kashmir
Srinagar, Dec 29 (UNI) Distressed over their failure in class X examination, four students, including two girls, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in the Kashmir valley overnight, official sources said today.
They said Shaista Akhter, a resident of Bandipora in Baramulla district, Irshad Ahmad Malik of Charsoo in Pulwama, J G Singh of Tral in Pulwama and Jozi Akhtar of Habba Kadal in Srinagar attempted suicide by allegedly consuming some poisonous substance after they could not bear the shock of their failure in the examination.
They were admitted in various hospitals in critical condition.
The result of class X examination was declared on December 26 in which as many as 35,834 students from the Kashmir division had appeared. Of them, 21,618 were declared successful as the overall pass percentage this year stood at 60.33.
This year about 63.44 per cent boys were declared successful as compared to 56.19 per cent girls. While 12,981 boys passed the examination, the figure stood at 8,637 for girls.
