UP: Forward Block launches 'Chetna Abhiyan'
Lucknow, Dec 29: All India Forward Block (AIFB) has launched a countrywide 'Chetna Abhiyan' demanding Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birthday be known as 'Desh Prem Diwas' and changing the name of Andaman Island to 'Shahid Swaraj Deep'.
The campaign was flagged off by AIFB general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Debabrata Biswas here yesterday. The ''abhiyan'' will traverse through the districts of Uttar Pradesh and culminate in Kolkata on January 23.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Biswas said the party wants Netaji's birthday on January 23 be known as 'Desh Prem Diwas'.
''The name of the Andaman Island should be changed to 'Shahid Swaraj Deep' as promised by the centre way back. The UPA government should also accept the Mukherjee Commission report on the mysterious death of Netaji.'' Claiming that only Netaji's economic policy could evolve a consensus among the people, he said it was unfortunate the centre had ignored the agriculture sector resulting in suicide by about 1.20 lakh farmers in the country.
''All the governments are only interested in following the corporate culture by establishing SEZs, where the provisions of Indian law cannot be enforced,'' he lamented.
