Congress Corporator joins BJP
Jalandhar, Dec 29 (UNI) Jalandhar Municipal Corporation Member and Mahila Congress district president Sushma Gautam today quit the Congress and joined Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP).
Ms Gautam told reporters that she had resigned from the primary membership of Congress and sent her resignation to party chief Sonia Gandhi and state president Shamsher Singh Dullo.
Ms Gautam said she was feeling ''suffocated'' in the Congress for sometime and had decided to quit now after several protest letters to Ms Gandhi failed to evoke any response from the party high command.
BJP state president Avinash Rai Khanna welcomed Ms Gautam in the BJP and said that more people from the Congress might join the party as they were feeling suffocated in that party.
Earlier this week, ruling Congress legislator Raj Kumar Khurana had quit the party and joined BJP.
