Andaman gets regular Lt Governor after one year
Port Blair, Dec 29: After a lapse of about a year, the farthermost landmass of India, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, got a regular Lt. Governor from today.
Lt General (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM took over as the 10th Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which was ravaged by deadly tsunami in December 26, 2004.
In absence of a regular administrator the tsunami-hit Island did not receive the desired accelerated rate of development, which was the need of the hour.
The Lt General was administered oath of office by Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Mr. Justice V S Sirpurkar during the swearing-in ceremony organised in Raj Niwas, Port Blair.
