ULFA must make a formal request for talks: Duggal
Bhubanewswar, Dec 28 (UNI) Union Home Secretary V K Duggal today said top ULFA leaders in Asom must make a formal request to the Centre for talks to restore peace in the north eastern state.
'' We are ready to hold talks with the ULFA but there should be a formal approach from the ULFA leaders to the Centre,''the Union Home Secretary said after holding the coordination meeting of the naxalite affected states here.
He said before any talk, the ULFA should make its stand clear that there would be no more violence and no sovereignty issue. These two pre-conditions were of utmost important to hold peace talks with the ULFA cadres, the Union Home Secretary said.
To a question, Mr Duggal clarified that the Home Minister has so far not received any report of the presence of Al-Qaeda militants in the country.
'' We know that during the peak season and festive seasons some groups try to foment trouble in the country and accordingly we tighten security arrangements and sensitise the state police to keep a strong vigil on the movement of these groups owing allegiance to some terrorist organisation,'' he remarked.
