TCS launches science to s/w training programme
Chennai, Dec 28: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading global IT services and consulting organisation today launched its science-to-software training programme aimed at grooming science graduates for IT careers.
Addressing a press conference here, TCS Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director S Ramadorai said 'TCS Ignite' was an intensive seven-month programme aimed at transforming 500 science graduates, chosen after a rigorous four-stage selection process, into global software professionals.
He said the recruitment process for the pilot programme spanned nine states, 25 cities and candidates had been selected from 125 colleges.
In terms of student profile for the pilot branch, nearly 60 per cent of the selected candidates were from non-metro cities and were typically first-generation college graduates.
TCS also had plans to scale up and make offers to 2,000 science graduates during this academic year as a part of the initiative, he said.
TCS Vice-President and Head (Chennai Operations) Ravi Viswanath said the curriculum would include formal lectures, projects and assignments, quiz programmes and interactive sessions.
The selected graduates would undergo courses in the principles of software development and IT, develop an understanding of core technologies underlying IT systems, services like package implementation, new technologies like Java, .Net and TCS proprietary tools, frameworks and quality processes.
These would be complemented by soft-skill development in presentation, communication, teamwork and leadership skills and work-life balance activities like music appreciation, he added.
