Sonia, PM attend Cong Foundation Day function
New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) The 121st Foundation Day of the Congress, founded by late A O Hume, was celebrated at the AICC Hedquarters here today with Congress President Sonia Gandhi hoisting the party flag and singing the national anthem and Vande Mataram along with others.
Ms Gandhi, who arrived at the venue minutes after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Cabinet colleagues reached there, took the salute from Seva Dal workers.
All the AICC General Secretaries and Secretaries together with the CWC were present on the occasion.
The Congress President and the Prime Minister greeted those present there, including the media, wishing them a happy new year.
Later the gathering dispersed for tea where discussions centred round observance of the centenary of the Satyagraha started by Mahatma Gandhi a hundred years ago in South Africa.
Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma briefed the media and those present about the activities being organised in observance of the centenary of Satyagraha, including an international conference and seminar on Gandhian philosphy to be held in Delhi on January 29 and 30, the Martyrdom Day of Mahatma Gandhi.
