NEC, DoNER convened spl meeting for NE states

Aizawl, Dec 28: North Eastern Council (NEC) and Ministry of Development of Northeast Region (DoNER) have jointly convened a special meeting to discuss the issue of harnessing natural resources including power potential of the region.

Planning department officials here today said Chief Ministers and Governors of NE states would attend the meeting, scheduled to be held at Pasighat of Arunachal Pradesh next month.

Officials said that the meeting would discuss the potential of hydro-electric of the region, which was estimated as 63,257 MW by Central Electricity Authority.

''Out of the total potential, only 1,179 MW power is generated now and 3,453 MW generation is still under construction while 810.1 MW capacity of gas based power projects are in the pipeline,'' the officials said.

The meeting would also discuss about the horticulture and allied sectors projects pending with NEC, they added.
